These are Vintage 1981 Shuko Ninja claws.
Ninja; or Shinobi, as they are actually called, use these as a climbing aid.

Ninja is the word that described what they were; whereas Shinobi is what they were called.
It's a shortened form of shinobi-no-mono, which literally means "one who endures/hides"; due to their stealth.

The word Ninja didn't start till much later in history & comes from the Japanese characters nin and ja. Nin having a meaning of "conceal" and "move stealthily" & ja meaning "person." But that was just a description; not what they were called. Shinobi is what they were known as in Japan.
